Ayurveda
Fort Ayurveda offers remedies based on preventive,
curative and rejuvenative Ayurvedic therapies.
Most of the Ayurvedic hands-on therapies use Ayurvedic
medicated herbal oils which are pure and manufactured
in Nagarjuna’s well-equipped manufacturing
facilities at Thodupuzha.
The following are
some of the treatments we offer in our centre:
Abhyanga – Body Massage
Warm medicated oil selected by the doctor according
to the condition of the individual and disease
is massaged into the skin to loosen and dislodge
toxins accumulated within the tissues. The massage
facilitates the flow of blood and lymph and promotes
absorption of the healing qualities of the oil.
The toxins are mobilized through the blood stream
and into the gastrointestinal tract where elimination
will occur. Abhyanga is done by two therapists
working in synchrony on both sides of the body.
Sirodhara
The treatment consists of gentle
pouring of warm herbal oil over the middle of
the forehead or the "third eye" area.
Sirodhara is a fundamental part of ancient Ayurvedic
medicine, which believes that the forehead is
associated with key glands within our head and
that the therapy balances the central nervous
system by gently stimulating these glands. Typically,
Sirodhara therapy can bring better sleep, calm
emotions, stress and anxiety, reduce depression
and epileptic fits symptoms, clearer thinking,
better memory, and is considered an excellent
therapy for many diseases above the collar bone.
The treatment is profoundly relaxing and balancing
to the entire nervous system, taking you into
a deeply relaxed state.
Swedana – Steam Bath
Herbalized steam relaxes the body,
reduces tension, and opens the pores and channels
of circulation. Performed following abhyanga,
swedana promotes penetration of the medicinal
effects deep into the bodily tissues. Loosened
impurities are eliminated through the sweat glands
and gastrointestinal tract, thus purifying tissues
and eliminating accumulated toxins from the body.
Nasya – Nasal Infusion
Ayurveda nasal treatment helps
to alleviate problems of excess mucus and blocked
sinuses. An invigorating head massage prior to
a herbal steam inhalation is given to loosen and
melt the accumulated mucus in sinuses. Herbal
nasal drops are then administered to release mucus
from the sinus passages.
Ayurvedic Facial Treatment
Using wholesome products and massage
oils, the treatment begins with cleansing of the
face, followed by a relaxing massage. Then a detoxifying
clay mask is applied. Next comes a thorough neck,
shoulder and face massage. A final nutritional
mask is applied to nourish and regenerate the
skin. Hot towels are applied between each phase
of the treatment. While the masks are drying,
one receives an entire body, hand and foot massages. Since the
hands, feet, and head reflect to the entire body,
the treatment has benefits that go beyond the
facial to relax and renew the body and mind. Last,
toner and moisturizer are applied.
Herbal Foot Bath
Do you take care of your legs and
feet as much as you use them? An ayurvedic foot
care benefits the whole body and nervous system.
An ayurvedic leg and foot bath and massage relax
the whole physiology and provide a feeling of
revitalization, increased energy, and improved
circulation.
Legs (knee downwards) are soaked for 20 minutes
in a warm bath with herbs and bath salts. Herbs
are gently rubbed down your legs to remove dead
cells and dry skin. Finally they are wiped dry
and thoroughly oil massaged and pampered with
gentle pressure for 30 minutes. For tired feet and hard skin, a foot soak can
do wonders!
Pizhichil
or 'Royal Treatment'
is the ultimate therapy for relaxing mind and body with a
constant flow of warm oil slowly in a rhythmic way and gently
applied to the body by two therapists working in complete
harmony. This treatment provides mild sudation to the skin
and draws impurities to the surface leaving you feeling peaceful,
calm and relaxed.
Udvarthana - Dry Herb Massage
This is a specialized
treatment for reducing body fat whereby a blend of purifying
herbs in powder form is vigorously worked into the body/rubbed
onto the skin for simultaneous detoxification and nourishment
of body tissues. Both, stagnant lymphatic toxins and excess
subcutaneous fat can be removed giving the skin a lustrous
glow.
Njavarakizhi:
This is a treatment where the whole body, or a specific part
of the body is made to perspire by massaging with a special
preparation of Njavara rice tied in muslin bags. The massage
is done by two masseurs for around 60 to 90 minutes per day
for a period of seven to fourteen days. Njavarakizhi gives
excellent results in the treatment of paralysis, rheumatism
and muscular degeneration.
Elakizhi
Kizhi is one of the most popular therapies used to tackle
joint pain, muscle cramps, stress and arthritis. A mixture
of herbs is seasoned in medicated oil and tied into a fine
muslin cloth, dipped in lukewarm oil and massaged into the
body by two masseurs for 45 minutes. The treatment is effective
in cases of rheumatic complaints and to reduce unwanted accumulation
of fluids.
Apart from these, we offer 1-4 weeks of special ayurvedic
packages with ayurvedic diet specifically tailored to an individual's
constitution bringing one's whole being into a blissful state
of balance.
